⭐ Updates & Improvements
Major Compliance Update for Australian STSL Withholding
- What is it? Following the passage of the Universities Accord (Cutting Student Debt by 20 Per Cent) Bill 2025, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has issued new tax withholding schedules that take effect from September 24, 2025. We have updated our payroll engine to incorporate these mandatory changes for all Study and Training Support Loans (STSL), including HELP, VSL, and other student loans.
-
Why does it matter? This is a significant legislative change designed to provide cost-of-living relief. The two key changes are:
- New Repayment Threshold: The minimum income threshold for compulsory repayments for the 2025-26 financial year has been increased substantially, from $54,435 to $67,000.
- New Marginal Calculation: Instead of being calculated on a person's total income, repayments are now calculated only on the portion of income earned above the new $67,000 threshold.
By implementing these changes, your payroll processing will take these changes into account automatically, and you ensure your employees receive the full benefit of these government relief measures in their take-home pay.
- Who is it for? This change applies automatically to all customers processing payroll in Australia.
- What do I need to do? No action is required from you. The new ATO tax tables and calculation methods will be automatically applied to all pay runs with pay date on or after September 24, 2025.
🐞 Bug Fixes & Performance Enhancements
- Leave Update Failures We resolved an issue where updating an employee's leave record would sometimes fail at a certain volume. The system will now ensure a higher number of script deployments.
- Platform Stability & Performance We've made numerous behind-the-scenes updates. These changes strengthen the platform.
