What this means
This message appears when your payroll licence limit has been reached for the current calendar month — not for the specific payrun you're trying to process.
The limit counts every unique employee paid at any point during the month, across all pay runs (including off-cycle runs or corrections) — not just the employees included in the payrun you're currently running.
Example: If your licence allows 50 employees and you already paid 2 employees earlier this month in a separate run, a new payrun with only 49 employees can still trigger this error — because the combined total for the month is 51 unique employees.
How to resolve it
- Check whether additional employees were paid earlier this month outside of your regular payrun (e.g., an off-cycle payment, correction, or a different pay group).
- If you need additional employee capacity, contact ZonePayroll Support team through the Customer Support Form to have your licence limit increased.
- Once your licence has been increased on our end, you'll need to refresh it on your side:
Go to Payroll Admin tab > Payroll Setup > View/Update Licence
This step is required — the payrun error will continue to appear until the licence is updated on your end, even after the increase has been applied. - Once updated, continue with your payrun. It should now proceed without the error.
Need help?
If you continue to see this error after updating your licence, or you're unsure why your unique employee count is higher than expected, please reach out to Zone & Co Support via the Customer Support Form and select ZonePayroll.
