What this means
If you see the message "LICENSE IS NOT VALID – please try updating the license using the button above" on your Zone Payroll License Information page, it means your Zone Payroll license has reached its expiry date.
This is separate from your employee license limit (the number of employees you're allowed to process). If your license has expired, you won't be able to add or re-add employees to a pay run, run payroll, or use other license-gated features until the license is renewed.
How to check
- Go to Payroll Admin tab > Payroll Setup > View License.
- Check the Expiry Date field.
- If that date is today or in the past, your license has expired and needs to be renewed.
What to do
- If you already have a renewal quote pending: please confirm with whoever handles your account (finance/procurement) whether the quote has been accepted. Licenses only renew once the quote acceptance has been processed.
- If you're not sure of your renewal status, or you need to complete an in-progress pay run urgently: contact Zone & Co Support and let us know:
- Your account/company name
- That you're seeing an "Invalid License" error
- Whether you have a time-sensitive pay run deadline
Good to know
- This error is not related to how many employees you're licensed for — it's about the license as a whole being active or expired.
- Renewals are processed by our Billing team, so if you've already accepted a quote and still see this error, please reach out to Support through our Customer Support Form so we can check the status and, if needed, apply a temporary extension while it's processed.
Need help?
Contact Zone & Co Support with your account details and a screenshot of the error message, and let us know if you have an urgent pay run deadline so we can prioritize accordingly.
