• Default View – Provides a high-level summary of earnings and deductions for quick total verification.
• T4 Mapping View – Displays detailed CRA box-level mappings for each earning, deduction, and taxable benefit.
• Export to Excel – Allows you to download mapping data for offline review, auditing, or record retention.
Understanding T4 Views: Mapping vs. Default
When reviewing or exporting T4 data, you can toggle between two distinct views. Choosing the right view depends on whether you need a high-level summary or a technical breakdown for tax validation.
T4 Mapping View
This view is your primary tool for compliance and auditing. It provides a granular breakdown of your data by linking every earning, deduction, or contribution to its specific T4 reporting box.
Use this when: You need to confirm exactly where a "Bonus" or "Health Benefit" is being reported on the final T4 slip.
Default View
The Default View offers a streamlined look at your payroll data. It displays the names of your data types (Earnings, Deductions, etc.) without the technical tax mapping.
Use this when: You are doing a quick sanity check of totals and do not need to verify box-level reporting.
How to Export T4 Mapping Data to Excel
If you need to perform an external audit or keep a record of your mappings, follow these steps:
Navigate to the Global Search bar and type T4 Mapping View.
Select the relevant Tax Year from the dropdown menu.
Click Export to save the results as an Excel file.
[!TIP] Best Practice for Version Control
Label your exports clearly: Use a naming convention like
T4_Mapping_Run1,T4_Mapping_Run2, etc.Track Changes: If you modify data and re-export, always save it as a new "Run." This creates an audit trail that allows you to track changes over time.
